(拥抱未来)
Sept.29th is an unforgettable day for me, for I attended the most wonderful lecture I have never had before. It was given by Dr. Ed Nicholson, a very kind and lovely man, and organized by Institute for English Language Education.
In his lecture, Dr. Nicholson made me understand a lot through his good sense of humor and his lively speech. Most of what he said can make you think deeply.
As new students of the university, we should realize that it’s high time that we took charge of our lives. Of course, it’s not an easy thing for all of us. But Dr. Nicholson led us walk on this road.
First, we should be active and confident.
Whenever you start to do a challenging job, do as Dr. Nicholson told us to: repeat in your mind, “ I think I can! I think I can!” instead of “I don’t think I can!”
And if you see a half glass of water, you should think, “ my glass in life is half full” but not “half empty”!
Second, if we want to learn well, we must learn to share our knowledge with others, especially when you learn English. Dr. Nicholson said humorously that too much time alone and talking to trees would not help you!
What’s more, selecting good role models will also help you learn well. One of Dr. Nicholson’s hero is Dr. Bethune (白求恩), a great doctor and internationalist from Canada
“I work for you!” Dr. Nicholson said loudly, with his heart, to us all. He told us he came to China to make contribution to the English education in China.
What a great teacher! What a great person!
From Dr. Nicholson, we can feel that his role model has affected him greatly, and we can also know that how important good role models are!
Third, we cannot forget that we are Chinese! We should be proud of who we are, and we should try to make contributions to the construction of our motherland.
All that came out from a Canadian teacher! Hearing this, I could not help clapping my hands, with tears running down my cheeks.
Dr Nicholson has given us some other advice on how we can lead a happy life in the university such as striving for balance and wellness, developing healthy relationships and doing some different things, etc.
Finally, Dr Nicholson encouraged us, “Where will you go from here, from GDUFS? It all depends on you!”
Dr. Nicholson, my dear friend, thank you very much for your excellent and impressive lecture. I can see my future more clearly now and I will surely draw the picture of my future with confidence, with hard work and with all my heart!
