印度尼西亚苏门答腊岛附近海域发生百年罕见的大地震，引发了高达10米的巨大海啸，导致了重大的生命和财产损失。灾难震惊世界，我国人民对灾区人民表现出极大的同情，对灾区的重建工作给予高度关注。
一方有难、八方支援，扶危济困、急人所难是中华民族的传统美德，关注人类、关爱生命、团结一致、抗灾救助，是世界的共同心声。基础英语学院工会积极相应组织号召，发起了为印度洋海啸灾区人民捐款的爱心大行动。基英学院的教职员工包括外教，慷慨解囊，为灾区人民尽一份心意。
此次活动共筹到款项人民币2770元。所有善款已缴至校团委，并将于近期送往广州市红十字会。

亲爱的朋友们：
你们好。当你们看到这封信的时候，同时也接到了我们这些来自中国的广东外语外贸大学基础英语学院的全体教职员工的一片心意。
印度尼西亚苏门答腊岛附近海域发生百年罕见的大地震，引发了高达10米的巨大海啸，致使你们遭受了重大的生命和财产损失。印度洋海啸灾情牵动了中国人民的心，我国政府已通过中国红十字会向海啸受灾国捐款，向受灾国提供了大量救灾援助并派出救援队。
灾难震惊世界，中国人民对灾区人民表现出极大的同情，对灾区的重建工作亦给予高度关注。一方有难、八方支援，扶危济困、急人所难是中华民族的传统美德，关注人类、关爱生命、团结一致、抗灾救助，是世界的共同心声。因此，我们学院的全体教职员工包括来自美国、加拿大等国家的教师，积极相应组织号召，发起了为印度洋海啸灾区人民捐款的爱心大行动。

To Our Friends in the Tsunami-battered Countries

Dear friends in the tsunami-battered countries,
Through this letter, we are voicing the concern from all the staff of Institute for English Education, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, China.
We are greatly shocked to learn that the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami has taken away a lot of lives and brought about terrible destruction.
It is the Chinese tradition to help people in distress and aid people in peril. It is the common concern of the world to send relief to the tsunami-battered countries. We Chinese people are highly concerned about the rescue and reconstruction in the tsunami-battered countries. The Chinese government is making a big effort to help meet the relief needs, leading, we hope, to the long term rehabilitation of the tsunami-battered countries. Meanwhile, ethnic Chinese communities have set up disaster-relief centers to collect additional funds and help distribute relief materials.
Our institute has also set up a disaster-relief activity to collect funds from the staff including Chinese teachers and some teachers from the US and Canada. Every penny here shows our concern and friendship. We will be hand-in-hand with you to solve the problems. We hope in the new year you will get over the disaster and will be able to rebuild for your future.
